Customs and Army Join Forces to Crack Down on Southwest Waterway Smuggling

The Nigeria Customs Service Western Marine Command and the Nigerian Army have deepened their partnership to tackle smuggling along the nation’s southwestern waterways. During a courtesy visit by Lt.-Col. A.E. Amangele to the Customs headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, both services agreed to boost intelligence sharing and coordinate joint operations. The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Patrick Ntadi, said the vast waterways and the sophistication of smugglers demand strong inter-agency synergy. Officials believe this renewed collaboration will enhance surveillance, strengthen enforcement capacity and cut illicit trade that undermines government revenue and economic stability.

True, partnering Customs with the Army should tighten patrols, seal off routes and discourage smugglers, if they keep up the pressure.
