Michigan Fugitive from 1993 Rock Singer Murder Arrested in Panama After 30 Years
A Michigan man wanted for the 1993 killing of his rock singer roommate has been captured in Panama City after three decades on the run. US Marshals identified 56-year-old Richard Werstine at a Panama dog park using his fingerprints. He had fled Detroit after Rodney Barner, frontman of the band Cold as Life, was fatally shot in his sleep. Werstine lived under multiple aliases and held fraudulent IDs since 2005, avoiding detection despite several arrests in the US. He faces extradition to Michigan to answer for the murder charge he skipped in 1994. The Marshals Service praised this operation as part of its ongoing mission to bring long-time fugitives to justice and deliver closure to victims’ loved ones.
