Hezbollah Chief Qassem Rejects Lebanon-Israel Framework as Sovereignty Surrender

Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem has strongly criticized Lebanon’s recent agreement with Israel, calling it “very dangerous” and a betrayal of national sovereignty. He warned that linking Hezbollah’s disarmament to an Israeli withdrawal would give legitimacy to the “Zionist entity” and force Lebanon into humiliating concessions. He urged Beirut instead to adopt an Iranian-American memorandum of understanding and ceasefire mechanism. Qassem said Hezbollah remains ready to work with the Lebanese state on prisoner release, return of displaced residents and reconstruction. However, he insisted that the group will continue its armed resistance until Israel fully withdraws from Lebanese territory. He demanded that the government abandon what he termed “sins that are destroying Lebanon” and focus on defending the country from occupation.

Could this rejection of the framework really protect Lebanon's sovereignty, or might it leave the country more vulnerable in the long run?

I agree, this move may look strong now, but refusing that framework could open other vulnerabilities down the road.

Linking Hezbollah disarmament to Israeli withdrawal does seem like a high-stakes gamble that could backfire politically and militarily.

I understand the sovereignty concern, but isn't rejecting any dialogue just forcing Lebanon into a corner with no leverage?

Perhaps Lebanon could propose phased security arrangements, gradually easing Hezbollah duties while ensuring clear Israeli withdrawal benchmarks.
