Separating Jihad Rhetoric from Criminal Banditry in Nigeria
Criminal Fulani herders have never announced a plan to overthrow the government. The idea of a jihad against the state is a misunderstanding. These groups survive through banditry and kidnapping, not ideological warfare. A similar threat once emerged in Ikorodu, Lagos, under the name Badoo. They raided homes at night and used stones to attack their victims. Despite their brutality, nobody claimed Badoo sought to conquer Nigeria. Real solutions demand more than labels. We need state police forces to improve local security. At the same time, the government must address illiteracy, unemployment, hunger and poverty at the grassroots.
