US Diplomat Chair Urges Tinubu to Redeploy Matawalle Over Security Red Flags

US Diplomat Chair Urges Tinubu to Redeploy Matawalle Over Security Red Flags

Kimberly Daniels, Florida state representative and chairwoman of the United World Congress of Diplomats, has called on President Tinubu to redeploy Bello Matawalle as minister of state for defence. She cited a recent security assessment that highlights serious concerns in his leadership. The report reviewed attacks during the 2026 Easter period in Plateau, Kaduna and Nasarawa states. It found a surge in violence targeting worshippers and a disconnect between official condemnations and safety on the ground. Local leaders and survivors say security guarantees remain unmet. Daniels urged an immediate leadership review to restore the defence ministry’s integrity. She recommended a transparent probe into alleged complicity with bandits during Matawalle’s time as Zamfara governor. The report also calls on the United States and international partners to step up diplomatic pressure for accountability and stronger protection of vulnerable communities.

Which security red flags in that assessment justify Kimberly Daniels' call for Matawalle's redeployment and how might it affect defence outcomes?
