Ejiofor Warns: South-East Must Remain Peaceful and Reject Criminals Masquerading as IPOB
Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, human rights lawyer and IPOB lead counsel, has urged all Igbo communities to defend the peace in the South-East and reject those turning the liberation cause into a criminal enterprise. He recalls risking his life to expose extortion and violence under the guise of self-determination. He credits the Directorate of State, traditional institutions and security agencies for restoring relative calm. Ejiofor warns against indiscriminately branding every criminal actor as an IPOB member. He says such false narratives protect real perpetrators, misdirect investigations and deepen public distrust. With the 2027 elections approaching, he calls on citizens to remain vigilant against political actors who may weaponise insecurity. He stresses that evidence, not emotion, must guide the fight against crime and terrorism.
