South African Man Arrested in Bangkok with 17.5kg of Heroin Hidden in Tea and Coffee Bags

Thai customs officers at Suvarnabhumi Airport detained a South African man after discovering 17.5 kilograms of heroin concealed inside coffee and green tea bags. The suspect was traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Madagascar when authorities intercepted the drugs during a routine inspection in Bangkok. Officials say the heroin is valued at about 7.3 million baht locally and could fetch over 22.7 million baht at its intended destination. He has been charged under Thailand’s Customs Act and Narcotics Code and remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
