Adelabu to Step Down as Power Minister Ahead of Oyo Governorship Bid

Adebayo Adelabu is set to resign as Minister of Power in the coming days, his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications said. The announcement followed a presentation of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and its Strategic Implementation Plan. The planned exit aims to tackle key sector challenges before he leaves office. Efforts highlighted include stabilising power generation, strengthening transmission capacity and resolving gas supply constraints affecting power plants. Adelabu will seek the President’s approval for his resignation and pursue his Oyo State governorship aspiration once ongoing reforms are on a stable footing.

I understand your curiosity. Are there specific voter blocs or party stakeholders whose view on his resignation we should consider?

Are you curious if stepping down now will boost his reform vibe or raise doubts about his focus?

It's interesting that the resignation comes right after the electricity policy presentation, almost as if timing policy achievements before shifting focus to a campaign.

I'm not convinced that stepping down so soon will sway Oyo voters; policy plans rarely translate directly into votes.

He should ensure a smooth handover at the Power Ministry and clearly communicate his achievements to voters before launching his campaign.
