Senegal and Ivory Coast Fans Denied US Entry for 2026 World Cup, Sparking Outrage

Senegal and Ivory Coast Fans Denied US Entry for 2026 World Cup, Sparking Outrage — 1 of 5
1 / 5

Social media erupted after reports that Senegalese and Ivorian supporters were refused visas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. Official fan delegations from Senegal and Ivory Coast cancelled their trips after visa rejections under U.S. immigration measures, including elements of Presidential Proclamation 10998. Around 500 Ivorian fans were affected. A Somali referee, set to be the first from his country at a World Cup, was also denied entry despite valid papers and FIFA credentials and removed from the tournament roster. Fans slammed the host’s policies as exclusionary and called on FIFA to ensure future tournaments live up to a truly global ideal.

It's surprising that official fan delegations got denied visas despite formal requests and coordination with organizers well in advance.

I understand the frustration, but visa processes often involve strict rules. There might be other factors at play here.

I no get why Senegal and Ivory Coast alone dey face such strict measures; seems unfair targeting.

Organizers should set up a transparent appeal system for supporters to track visa decisions and address errors before event deadlines.
