Supreme Court Dismisses PDP Cross-Appeal Over NLA Suspension
A breakdown of recent Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court rulings on the Peoples Democratic Party’s internal dispute over its National Legal Adviser’s suspension. First, two FHC judgments in October and November 2025 confirmed only the National Legal Adviser can brief counsel under the PDP constitution. When the NLA was suspended, lower courts allowed an extra affidavit and counsel to represent the party but later dismissed that affidavit as immaterial to the main appeal. The Abuja Court of Appeal in March 2026 unanimously upheld the High Court decisions. It then mentioned the dismissed suspension affidavit suo motu but still ruled it irrelevant. The Supreme Court has now dismissed the PDP’s cross-appeal, confirming that the suspension issue was not germane to the main motions, and upheld the nullification of the Ibadan 2025 convention.
