IPSAW Warns of Widespread Job Losses, Urges Tinubu to Sack NAFDAC DG
The Independent Public Service Accountability Watch has urged President Tinubu to remove the Director-General of NAFDAC over alleged mismanagement of the sachet and small-volume alcohol ban. At a press briefing in Abuja, IPSAW accused the agency of ignoring government directives and undermining regulatory frameworks. They warned that continued enforcement could destabilise the alcohol sector, threaten thousands of jobs, and reduce government revenues. The group pointed out that the ban contravenes the National Alcohol Policy and House of Representatives resolutions calling for broader consultations. They stressed that regulatory decisions must be backed by credible research and stakeholder engagement, not emotional responses. IPSAW also cautioned that the ban could fuel illicit alcohol markets, increase smuggling, and harm consumers. They called for an immediate policy review and renewed dialogue with industry players to avert an economic crisis.
