Why Pastors Shouldn’t Hand Over the Pulpit to Politicians
Many pastors welcome politicians to preach and lavish them with praise when they visit. But handing over the sacred pulpit crosses a line. We can honor and pray for our leaders without letting them claim God’s platform. I once sat through a sermon that felt more like a political rally. The preacher praised the guest for his front-row seat and promised a private meeting after service. I was embarrassed by the shows of flattery. Pastors should pray for politicians and speak truth to power. They must set boundaries, resist courting favour, and call leaders to account rather than pampering them on the pulpit.
