Lagos State Disburses ₦1.13bn in Retirement Bonds to 668 Pensioners

Lagos State Disburses ₦1.13bn in Retirement Bonds to 668 Pensioners

The Lagos State Government has reinforced its commitment to retired workers by presenting retirement bond certificates worth ₦1.126 billion to 668 beneficiaries under the Contributory Pension Scheme. At the 114th Batch Retirement Bond Presentation Ceremony in Ikeja, the Lagos State Pension Commission director-general explained that the payment covers accrued pension rights before the scheme’s introduction in 2007. He credited the system’s efficiency to strong partnerships with Pension Fund Administrators, Annuity Service Providers and government agencies, noting steady progress despite economic challenges. The commission has also stepped up training for public servants on pension processes and plans further reforms to ensure a more responsive system and deepen financial literacy among retirees.

While it sounds generous, presenting bonds isn't the same as immediate cash; some retirees might struggle to monetize them promptly.
