Jos South Elders Urge Gyel District’s Turn for 2027 Federal Rep Seat
The Gyel Advocacy Group has appealed to political stakeholders in Jos South Local Government Area to uphold the longstanding zoning agreement for the 2027 federal House of Representatives seat. The group describes the arrangement as a “gentleman’s agreement” that has maintained unity since 1999. They note that rotational sharing of offices has cycled through all five districts, but Gyel and Du have yet to produce a representative. Based on historical turnover, the group argues it is now Gyel District’s turn to field the candidate, followed by Du in the next cycle. The group warned that attempts to bypass the zoning arrangement could overheat local politics and jeopardize the federal seat through internal divisions. They also dismissed claims that the governor endorsed certain aspirants, urging respect for the existing agreement. In a show of reciprocity, the Gyel Advocacy Group pledged solidarity with Za’ang District for the next state assembly seat. They praised the governor for flagging off the Gyero–Tanchol–Tahei Sot–DB Zang road project and reaffirmed their support for his administration.
