Malawi Adds Swedish and French-based Midfielders Ahead of Falconets Rematch

Malawi Adds Swedish and French-based Midfielders Ahead of Falconets Rematch

Malawi head coach Maggie Chombo has bolstered her U-20 squad ahead of Saturday’s second leg qualifier against Nigeria by calling up foreign-based midfielders Faith Chinzimu and Rose Kabzere. Chinzimu, a 19-year-old midfielder with Swedish club BK Häcken FF, was part of the squad that won the 2025/26 UEFA Women’s Europa League. Kabzere plies her trade with French side Montpellier and brings valuable experience to the side. The Young Scorchers fell 2-0 in the first leg at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne. They now head into the return fixture at Bingu National Stadium aiming to overturn the deficit and secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

How do you think adding Chinzimu and Kabzere from Sweden and France will impact Malawi's chances against the Falconets this weekend?

I agree, their European training background should improve Malawi's midfield control and give the team more stability this weekend.

I doubt two new players alone can shift fortunes overnight; team chemistry over fancy passports matters more.

Bringing in foreign-based midfielders is interesting, but team cohesion often depends on players who already understand each other's playing style.

I'm not convinced two new midfielders alone will shift the balance, considering Nigeria's U-20 side has been solid defensively.

With limited training time before Saturday's match, focus on integrating Chinzimu and Kabzere into existing tactics rather than overhauling midfield strategy.
