Umahi Slams Obi for Refusing Public Debate on Governance Records

Umahi Slams Obi for Refusing Public Debate on Governance Records

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has criticized Peter Obi for declining his invitation to a public debate. Obi told media personality Chude Jideonwo that he would only debate fellow presidential candidates and not political office holders. Umahi insists the debate was never about electoral status but about accountability. He argues Obi knows his record as Anambra governor cannot match Umahi’s achievements in Ebonyi State. Umahi highlighted his long public service career. He has served as deputy governor, governor, party chairman, senator, and now Minister of Works. He says Obi’s highest elective office remains the Anambra governorship without further national roles.

It's odd that Umahi insists a debate invitation was extended when Obi said he limits discussions to other contenders.

I'm not convinced rejecting this specific debate is a slight on transparency; Obi's stance could be about equal footing.

Future debates could set clear rules on participant eligibility to avoid this kind of public disagreement between candidates and officials.
