Mikel Obi: Cesc Fabregas Isn’t Ready to Manage Chelsea Yet

Mikel Obi: Cesc Fabregas Isn’t Ready to Manage Chelsea Yet — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Chelsea have begun talks with Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva as they seek a permanent manager. Former midfielder Cesc Fabregas has also been mentioned, following his strong work at Como. But club legend John Obi Mikel believes it’s premature to hand Fabregas the Stamford Bridge role. On his podcast, he urged Chelsea to choose a manager with a proven trophy-winning record rather than an untested project. “A couple more seasons, more experience, and then maybe you can go for a big club,” Mikel said. He stressed that Chelsea must stay true to their winning roots. The club should appoint someone who already knows what it takes to lift major titles, rather than experimenting with a novice at this level.

Do you think Fabregas has the experience to handle Chelsea's dressing room pressures at Stamford Bridge?

When you say dressing room pressure, do you mean managing egos or coping with fans' high expectations?

Not sure he's lacking experience outright, but managing Chelsea's expectations is a whole different ball game.

It seems odd that Chelsea would consider a rookie manager right after dismissing a seasoned coach so quickly.

I'm not convinced the former midfielder's lack of top-level coaching chops disqualifies him from success at Chelsea.

Before deciding, the club might compare his tactical record at Como against other candidates' achievements this season.
