Customs Arrests Two as Rifle Parts, Cannabis-Infused Snacks Are Seized at Lagos Port

The Nigeria Customs Service says it has arrested two suspects after intercepting parts used to assemble pump-action rifles at TinCan Island Port in Lagos. Customs said 140 rifles had been assembled from the recovered components, while officers were still assembling the remaining parts. One suspect was arrested on July 31 while allegedly trying to facilitate the release of the container at a bonded terminal. Customs said financial and telecommunications evidence linked the suspect to the shipment, while another key suspect is still being tracked. Officers also seized cannabis-infused cookies, gummies and other snack products concealed inside two containers among vehicles, generators, batteries and fabrics. The drugs, reportedly imported from the United States, had an estimated street value of ₦373.8 million. Customs and the NDLEA warned that the products were packaged to resemble ordinary vegan snacks, creating a risk that children, students and other unsuspecting consumers could ingest cannabis unknowingly. Investigations are ongoing.
