Ogun Govt: All Victims of Ijebu-Ode School Gas Incident Fully Recovered

The Ogun State Government reports that everyone admitted to Ijebu-Ode State Hospital after the recent school chemical inhalation incident has been discharged and certified fit. Health Commissioner Tomi Coker announced that ambulance crews with drivers and paramedics will be deployed to all wards in Ijebu-Ode for rapid emergency response. A medical protocol now ensures that any patient needing advanced care will be transferred immediately to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital. Coker explained that although methane is non-toxic, it can displace oxygen and cause symptoms from fatigue to breathing difficulties. She urged residents to use the ministry’s emergency line if they notice anything suspicious. Teachers and interested parents will be trained as community first responders. Environment Commissioner Ola Oresanya said gas analysers have been installed around affected schools and will be expanded. Education Commissioner Abayomi Arigbabu and the Police Commissioner detailed measures to calm students and secure schools, including drone surveillance and rapid response teams.
