Eight Cattle Killed, Many Wounded in Yarwe Attack on Barkin Ladi Herders

Gunmen opened fire on herders in Yarwe village, Fan District of Barkin Ladi LGA on Thursday afternoon. Eight cows were killed on the spot and several others were shot and injured as herders fled the scene. The Plateau State chapter of the cattle breeders association condemned the unprovoked attack. In a statement, the association called on the state government and security agencies to investigate, hold the perpetrators accountable and protect pastoralists’ livelihoods. It also urged Fulani community members to remain calm and let authorities handle the response. The Berom Youth Moulders-Association has denied involvement. Its spokesperson described the allegations as premature and urged security agencies to probe who violated grazing restrictions in the area before assigning blame.
