Yahoo Boys Steal ₦7.2M Meant for Judge’s Child—EFCC Recovers Funds Within Hours
The EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has warned about the growing threat of Yahoo Yahoo fraud. He shared how fraudsters emptied ₦7.2 million from a serving judge’s account in the middle of the night. The money had been saved for six years to pay her child’s school fees. Olukoyede spoke at a book launch by retired High Court judge Alaba Omolaye-Ajileye. He said a judge in a South-South state called him around 1 a.m. after seeing multiple debit alerts on her phone. Despite a court injunction barring EFCC probes in that state, the judge insisted on urgent action. The commission swung into action and recovered the full ₦7.2 million by 6 p.m. the same day. Olukoyede noted that experiencing this crime firsthand highlights the vital role of the EFCC. He urged collaboration among law enforcement, the judiciary, government institutions, and ordinary Nigerians to defeat the menace of cybercrime.
