Akwa Ibom Assembly to Regulate Dispatch Riders, Mobilises Action on Oron Erosion

Akwa Ibom Assembly to Regulate Dispatch Riders, Mobilises Action on Oron Erosion

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has approved a resolution to strengthen regulations for dispatch riding services across the state. Mr Ukpong Akpabio highlighted rising insecurity, revenue losses and unfair competition caused by unregistered operators. He urged the Ministry of Transport to review existing guidelines and enforce registration requirements for all dispatch riders. In a separate motion, Mr Kenim Onofiok called for an urgent response to severe erosion in the Oron area. The assembly directed the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources to declare a state of emergency and deploy contractors to stabilise shorelines and improve drainage systems. The Speaker has instructed the Clerk to communicate these directives to the relevant ministries for immediate implementation.
