Edo Miners Association Alleges NSCDC Extortion Over Royalty Payments
The Edo chapter of the Miners Association of Nigeria has raised concerns about alleged harassment and arbitrary levies by NSCDC marshals enforcing royalty payments on pulverized materials. At their AGM in Auchi, the acting chairman highlighted efforts to resolve disputes over dolomite and marble royalties. The association has formally engaged federal officials and is pushing to reclassify the mineral found in Akoko Edo as calcite in the Federal Gazette. The ministry’s Permanent Secretary has pledged closer collaboration and new state laws to support mining growth. Delegates also discussed energy alternatives and strategies to cut operational costs. A sector expert presented on Nigeria’s mining contribution to GDP and flagged illegal mining as a major challenge that undercuts licensed operators.
