Flooding Knocks Out Power in Lagos and Osun as DisCos Impose Load Shedding

Flooding Knocks Out Power in Lagos and Osun as DisCos Impose Load Shedding

The Eko and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Companies have announced power cuts in several communities after heavy rains and flooding disrupted key transmission lines. EKEDC said outages followed the breakdown of its Oshogbo-Ikeja 330kV and Benin-Egbin 330kV lines, affecting areas like Lekki, Chevron Drive, Alpha Beach, Oniru and Maroko. IBEDC reported flooding at the Ilerin Injection Substation in Osun State, causing outages in Ifewara, Iwara, Mount Carmel and neighboring communities. Both companies say their engineers are working with the national grid operator to restore supply as soon as the affected lines are back online. They apologise for the inconvenience and ask customers to bear with them.

Have you noticed other areas still struggling with power since the flooding knocked out those lines? What solutions have people tried?

Totally, other estates around here also dey suffer. Folks resort to small generators and solar lamps till power restores.

It seems odd that critical transmission lines would fail so quickly after rainfall. Maybe our infrastructure wasn't maintained properly before the floods.

I'm not convinced load shedding was the only option here; could the distributors have rerouted power or prioritized hospitals first?

Consider investing in a small inverter with solar panel support. It could keep essential lights running during unpredictable outages.
