Lagos Safety Commission Seals Over 100 Unsafe Facilities and Audits 3,500 Projects
The Lagos State Safety Commission has stepped up inspections and enforcement across the state between May 2025 and May 2026. It carried out over 3,500 safety compliance certifications and audited thousands of sites, including construction projects, haulage and logistics hubs, oil and gas facilities, transportation companies and high-rise buildings. More than 2,800 non-compliant sites were sealed, including 100 restaurants and supermarkets. The commission issued 89 contravention notices, 37 stop-work orders and pursued court actions against defaulting organisations in high-risk areas such as Lekki, Oniru, Victoria Island and Ikorodu. Public sensitisation campaigns reached schools, markets and workplaces with training on fire prevention, emergency response and machine safety. Safety marshals were deployed to over 1,450 events and school safety ambassadors were inaugurated to strengthen accident prevention and crowd management.
