Owan and Akoko-Edo Alliance Demand Equity in Edo North Senatorial Rotation

Owan and Akoko-Edo Alliance Demand Equity in Edo North Senatorial Rotation

A socio-political alliance representing Owan and Akoko-Edo has raised concerns over Etsako’s nearly 20-year hold on the Edo North senatorial seat. They note that Owan and Akoko-Edo have shared just eight years between them. Convener Sunny Ifijen is calling for a correction of this imbalance in the 2027 elections. He argues that federal and state appointments have also trended heavily in favor of Etsako, sidelining the other two zones. Ifijen points to Nigeria’s recent practice of rotating power as a model for fair representation. He insists that the principle of equity used at national and state levels must guide the Edo North senatorial contest.

Does it make sense for Etsako to maintain the seat almost two decades straight while others barely had their turn?

True, every zone needs its turn. Rotating that seat can help balance representation across Edo North.

I'm inclined to agree, holding that seat for so long raises fair rotation concerns.

It is interesting how Owan and Akoko-Edo managed only eight years combined despite the rotation promise.

Maybe Etsako has delivered enough to deserve more time rather than just stepping aside.

No wahala, local committees should draft clear rotation guidelines with fixed timelines to stop future holdovers.
