F.U.O.E Lecturer Charging N10,000 Handout Fee from Undergraduates Sparks Outrage

The current economic hardship is biting hard on students and families. A lecturer at Federal University Oye-Ekiti is now charging N10,000 per student for lecture handouts. This feels like outright extortion, especially when many undergraduates struggle to afford basic expenses. Dr. Babatunde of the Art Faculty (HIS 109: African in the Diaspora) should find alternative income sources—farming or animal rearing—rather than preying on struggling students. Collecting N10,000 from nearly 200 undergraduates amounts to N2 million, a practice that cannot go unchallenged. The National Universities Commission and the Vice-Chancellor must step in promptly to investigate and stop this exploitative trend. Students deserve fair access to academic materials without additional fees.
