Troops Intervene in Two Plateau Farm-Destruction Disputes Involving Teenage Herders
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have intervened in two separate farm-destruction disputes involving teenage herders in Plateau State. In Kerker Community, spanning Jos East and Bassa LGAs, soldiers arrested a 17-year-old herder after a farmer reported damage to his farmland on August 4. Security personnel are supervising talks between both sides and local Fulani leaders. In a separate incident in Hura Community, Bassa LGA, troops rescued a 13-year-old herder who had been detained by farmers after another allegation of farmland destruction. Community leaders are helping to identify the owners of the cattle involved as authorities seek to prevent the disputes from escalating into violence.
