Grenade Mishap Kills Soldier at Yobe Forward Operating Base

A soldier attached to Forward Operating Base Aulari under 202 Battalion died after an accidental grenade explosion in Yobe State. The incident occurred around 6:24 a.m. on May 26, 2026. Security analysts report the soldier was handling an FN rifle loaded with a 96 Energa grenade when it detonated unexpectedly. Preliminary checks indicate the safety catch was engaged and the weapon was not fired. Only the grenade’s upper section exploded while its rear remained attached to the rifle muzzle. The soldier’s remains were evacuated to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for further action.
