Court Sentences Nine for Benue Church Abduction
A Benue State court has convicted nine of ten suspects involved in the February 8, 2026, abduction of worshippers at St. John Catholic Church in Ojije, Ado Local Government Area. Authorities secured the victims’ release after acting on credible intelligence. Initial operations by the Police Intelligence Response Team led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of AK-47 rifles and ammunition. Further investigations resulted in additional arrests, including those of Abubakar Jibril and Ashiru Ibrahim, whose confessions helped dismantle the criminal network. On March 21, the Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Engr. Sunny Oche, praised the coordinated efforts of the police, Department of State Services and local vigilantes. He also commended state leadership for ensuring justice and restoring public confidence. Nine suspects have received prison terms, while one remains in custody awaiting trial.
