APC Disqualifies 65 Fubara Allies From Rivers Assembly Primaries Amid Membership and Bribery Violations

The APC Screening Committee cleared just 33 of 98 aspirants for the Rivers State House of Assembly primaries, rejecting 65 for alleged infractions of party rules. Many of those screened out are seen as loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The committee applied Article 9.3’s financial membership requirement and cited issues such as invalid affidavits, missing party dues and insufficient nominators. The Port Harcourt exercise also featured a bribery allegation against Tonye Garrick Tom-George, who reportedly offered money to influence committee members. He was disqualified immediately and the matter referred to police. Among the 33 cleared are known allies of Minister Nyesom Wike. Observers say the mass purge will reshape the primaries and could trigger legal challenges as the APC finalizes its candidates.
