APC Chairman Jokes He’d ‘Poach’ FCT Minister Wike from PDP

APC Chairman Jokes He’d ‘Poach’ FCT Minister Wike from PDP

At the flag-off of new road projects in Abuja, the APC national chairman praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as hardworking and tireless. He joked that he wished he could “corner” Wike and bring him over from the Peoples Democratic Party. He recalled Wike’s support for President Tinubu during the 2023 election and quipped that the PDP had “loaned” the former Rivers State governor to the APC. The chairman admitted he was jealous that Wike remained in the opposition yet delivered results similar to those in his own party. Since his August 2023 appointment, Wike’s role in the APC-led government has sparked debate within the PDP. Some members accuse him of undermining party interests by working closely with the ruling administration.

It seems telling that he praised Wike's work ethic despite their parties being rivals.

That joke hardly signals a real power grab; party loyalty seldom flips because of playful banter.

It might help to watch if Wike's actions in Abuja reflect any shift in policy or allegiance over time.
