Katsina Court Sentences Woman to Death for Supplying Ammunition to Bandits
A Federal High Court in Katsina has condemned Hauwa’u Mukhtar to death by hanging after convicting her on terrorism charges. The court found her guilty of conspiracy and aiding a notorious bandit network in the North-West. Mukhtar was arrested by DSS operatives at Jibia Motor Park in September 2023 with 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Prosecutors linked the consignment to a bandit commander operating from Dunburum Forest in Zamfara State. Justice A.B. Bawale ruled that the evidence—witness testimonies and exhibits—proved her involvement beyond reasonable doubt. The judgment under the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021, signals a tougher stance on illegal arms supply and terrorism. Security analysts say curbing arms inflows is vital to weaken the region’s violent criminal groups.
