Court Adjourns Jonathan Eligibility Suit After Plaintiff’s No-Show
A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case challenging former President Goodluck Jonathan’s eligibility for the 2027 election. The plaintiff and his lawyer failed to appear, and the court warned that punitive costs may be imposed if they miss the next date. When proceedings began, SAN Chris Uche for the first defendant highlighted the absent counsel. The court asked the registrar for any formal excuse but none was provided. Service issues emerged as neither the Independent National Electoral Commission nor the Attorney-General of the Federation had been served with hearing notices, despite an earlier court order. Uche urged the court to strike out the suit for lack of diligent prosecution and stressed the plaintiff’s responsibility to ensure proper service in a matter of national importance.
