INEC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Online Voter Registration Portal
The Independent National Electoral Commission has alerted the public to a fraudulent website claiming to handle the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise. A viral message circulating on WhatsApp and other platforms directs users to a third-party link with a false deadline of August 17, 2026. It also promises door-to-door delivery of Permanent Voter Cards. INEC’s Deputy Director of Information clarified that the portal is a phishing scam designed to steal personal data. He reminded Nigerians that the commission does not use private URLs or deliver PVCs to home addresses. Citizens are advised to verify all electoral updates through INEC’s official channels and to ignore any unverified links.
