Why Taraba Needs a Unified Infrastructure Vision

Why Taraba Needs a Unified Infrastructure Vision

Recent federal approval of major road projects shows that transformative infrastructure demands bold ideas, consensus-building and relentless advocacy. Taraba has had none of these for over 35 years. Despite its strategic location and economic potential, Taraba still lacks permanent bridges across the River Benue, dualised highways linking Makurdi, Jalingo, Numan and Gombe, proper access roads to the Mambilla Plateau and any place in the national railway plan. Federal highways to neighbouring states remain in poor condition. Taraba’s leaders must set aside local politics and unite behind a common infrastructure agenda. By lobbying for bridges at Ibi, Gassol and Lau, highway dualisation, Plateau access rehabilitation and inclusion in the railway master plan, they can unlock agriculture, commerce and tourism for generations to come.
