FG Bans Motorcycles and Tricycles on Bridges and Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway

FG Bans Motorcycles and Tricycles on Bridges and Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway

The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a new ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles using all bridges and the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway. Authorities say the measures are needed to protect the newly constructed road from misuse and deterioration. The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State has directed that no okada or tricycle should access the designated corridors. Indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles will also be prohibited. Signage has been installed and task force officials will be deployed to enforce compliance. The ministry further warned against dumping refuse along highway corridors, calling it unacceptable. Officials stressed that preserving this world-class infrastructure will enhance its lifespan, ensure public safety, and safeguard its value to Nigerians.

True, it's tough for bikers. They likely need to focus on buses or sharable taxis for those routes instead.

I'm not convinced this ban will significantly protect the new road without extra enforcement and monitoring measures.

It's harsh to penalize operators who count on those routes for daily income; they deserve some transitional support first.

Local transport unions should provide clear detour maps and coordinate with authorities to minimize commuter disruptions immediately.
