South African Police Launch Probe into Murder of Anti-Migrant Leader
A special police team in South Africa has launched an investigation into the shooting death of Andile Mvuyelwa Somgxada, leader of the March and March anti-migrant group in Gauteng province. He was shot outside his home east of Johannesburg earlier this month and died in hospital several days later. March and March claims Somgxada was targeted in retaliation for its campaign to force undocumented migrants to leave the country. Other group leaders have received warnings and death threats. Acting police chief Puleng Dimpane described the killing as an orchestrated hit and vowed that officers would ensure accountability. The case highlights rising tensions over undocumented migration in South Africa. Protesters set a June 30 deadline for migrants without papers to leave and have promised weekly marches until their demands are met. Officials say over 53,000 foreign nationals have been deported or repatriated since the campaign began. Business gone wrong. I don’t see much to investigate here. But I offer my rest in peace to my fellow deluded African.
