Ghana Jails Two Nigerians for Trafficking 11 Victims into Cyber Fraud

A Tema Circuit Court in Ghana has sentenced two Nigerian men, Kingsley Ndifon, 29, and Emmanuel Akong, 25, to 20 years in prison each for human trafficking and causing harm to 11 fellow Nigerians. Police said the victims were lured from Nigeria with promises of well-paid jobs in Ghana. Instead, they were allegedly held in a house in Sebrepor, Tema, deprived of their phones and identity cards, and forced to carry out internet fraud. Officers rescued the victims after a distress call in August 2023 and recovered 16 laptops and an iPad. Investigators said the victims were fed once daily and allegedly beaten with laptop cables and machetes when they refused instructions. The court imposed 20 years for human trafficking and 10 years for causing harm, to run concurrently. The case highlights the risks faced by job seekers targeted by cross-border trafficking networks.
