The Holy Family’s Return to Nazareth (Matthew 2:19-23)

After Herod’s death, an angel appeared to Joseph in Egypt and told him to take Mary and Jesus back to Israel because those who sought the child’s life were dead. Joseph obeyed and arrived in Judea. Hearing that Herod’s son Archelaus ruled there, he feared for the child’s safety. Warned again in a dream, he settled his family in Nazareth in Galilee. These events fulfilled the prophets’ words that the Messiah would be called a Nazarene.
