PDP Faction Submits Goodluck Jonathan’s Name to INEC for 2027 Presidency
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party says it has submitted former President Goodluck Jonathan’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. The faction, led by its interim national working committee, said it manually submitted candidate lists for the presidency, governorships, National Assembly and state assemblies after INEC allegedly denied it access to electronic submission codes. Its spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, said the faction considers itself the PDP’s legitimate leadership and has appealed a Federal High Court ruling over the party’s leadership dispute. The group also accused INEC of bias and warned that publishing a different candidate list could deepen concerns about the commission’s neutrality. The faction said it would continue to pursue legal remedies, describing the dispute as a test of opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general election.
