Wounded Arsenal Will Be Deadly, Warns Sporting Boss Ahead of UCL Clash — 1 of 4

Sporting CP manager Rui Borges warns his players that Arsenal will be extra motivated in the Champions League quarter-final after recent domestic setbacks. The Gunners lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City and were eliminated from the FA Cup by Southampton within a week. Borges says these defeats will act as fuel for Mikel Arteta’s side. “They will be like a wounded beast,” he told reporters. He expects Arsenal to arrive at the José Alvalade Stadium more focused and determined. Despite Arsenal’s status among Europe’s elite, Borges believes Sporting can reach their first-ever Champions League semi-final. He highlighted the role of the home crowd and insisted there were no favourites at this stage. The tie also features a subplot with striker Viktor Gyökeres returning to face his former club for the first time. Borges views the Swede as a key threat but stressed Sporting’s focus remains on the collective challenge.

A team like Arsenal must be licking their wounds after those domestic losses. Do you think their hunger will show in quarter-final performance?

Absolutely, those domestic stumbles should light a fire under them and boost their intensity in the quarter-finals.

Honestly, I doubted their grit after those losses, yet it makes sense they'd come out firing in the quarters.

Sporting's manager warns of an extra-motivated Arsenal, but that drive might already have been tested against Manchester City and Southampton.

I'm not convinced domestic setbacks automatically translate into extra motivation at UCL. Arsenal's top players still shine under pressure, regardless of recent results.

Sporting must stay compact and patient, blocking Arsenal's space early. A well-organized defence could neutralise that wounded mentality on the break.
