Pro Boxer Kayla Gomez Arrested After Allegedly Knocking Step-Aunt Unconscious at Fourth of July Party
Kayla Gomez, 22, a newly minted professional boxer, was arrested days after her pro debut when she allegedly struck her step-aunt at a family Fourth of July gathering. A criminal complaint obtained from local authorities in El Paso states the dispute began over party decorations for Gomez’s baby daughter. Witnesses say Gomez landed multiple punches to her step-aunt’s head, causing her to black out and sustain visible injuries. Police were called to a home in Anthony, Texas, and found the victim with a bloody lip and pain on both sides of her face. She declined hospital treatment but insisted on pressing charges. Gomez denied the accusations on social media, insisting she did not start the fight. She was booked on assault charges, released on $2,500 bond, and had turned pro on June 19 after winning 18 amateur national titles. She also qualified for the US Olympic boxing team in 2021.
