Kamaru Usman Surprised by Colby Covington’s UFC Retirement
Colby Covington has officially retired from the UFC after a public fallout with the promotion. His move shocked former champion Kamaru Usman, who still sees plenty of fight left in Covington’s career. Covington hasn’t competed in the Octagon since his 2024 loss to Joaquin Buckley. He was also left off the UFC Freedom 250 White House card, a decision many believe pushed him to retire. On the “Pound 4 Pound” podcast, Usman admitted he doesn’t understand why Covington would walk away now. He pointed to Covington’s success under Real American Freestyle and upcoming bout against Chris Weidman at RAF 09 on May 30. Despite leaving the UFC roster, Covington remains 2-0 in RAF with wins over Luke Rockhold and Dillon Danis.
