Wike Rejects Claims that Rivers People Want Fubara for 2027 Re-election

Wike Rejects Claims that Rivers People Want Fubara for 2027 Re-election

At his monthly media briefing in Abuja, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike dismissed suggestions that the people of Rivers State are united behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s 2027 bid. He called the narrative misleading and said there is no widespread public pressure on the governor to run again. Wike recalled how President Bola Tinubu intervened to halt the State Assembly’s impeachment proceedings against Fubara. He noted that the assembly withdrew the motion in line with the president’s arbitration but accused the governor of failing to uphold his part of the agreement. Challenging the idea of popular demand for Fubara’s return, Wike questioned who really claimed the electorate was pushing the governor to seek another term. He stressed that all parties must respect the commitments made under the presidential settlement.
