Getafe Defender Abdel Abqar Sent Off for Alleged Groin Pinch vs Atlético

Getafe’s Moroccan centre-back Abdel Abqar was shown a straight red card after a VAR review in Saturday’s LaLiga game at the Metropolitano. Replays appeared to show Abqar pinching Atlético striker Alexander Sørloth’s groin off the ball. In response, Sørloth hauled Abqar to the turf and the referee, Miguel Ortiz Arias, awarded the defender his marching orders and booked Sørloth. After the match, an astonished Abqar denied any intent. He told Movistar LaLiga that he only meant to make shoulder contact and swore on his family that he did not aim for a sensitive area. He insisted his hand was targeting Sørloth’s stomach rather than his groin.
