Nwoko calls for legal action and licence reviews for oil firms neglecting host communities
Senator Ned Nwoko has urged stronger legal and institutional measures against oil companies that ignore their obligations to host communities. He said simple condemnations are no longer enough. Speaking at a Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission session, he advocated pursuing litigation in jurisdictions where parent companies are based. He also recommended a thorough review of operating licences to decide if defaulting firms should keep operating in Nigeria. Highlighting concerns about environmental damage and inadequate community development, he argued that tougher enforcement would protect host communities and foster corporate responsibility and sustainable growth in the Niger Delta and other resource areas.
