Kogi Security Forces Neutralise Bandit Kingpin Behind Iluke Bunu School Attack
Kogi State has confirmed the death of notorious bandit leader Kachala Ibrahim Batijo following a coordinated operation by the military, police, DSS and local vigilantes. The state’s Commissioner for Information revealed the strike was in response to intelligence that Batijo planned mass school kidnappings, including an attack on the WAEC exam at GSS Iluke. Authorities say students were moved to a safer location in Iluke town and schools were temporarily closed for three weeks while high-tech surveillance tracked Batijo’s network. On June 10, around 100 armed men on 40 motorcycles launched an attack, but local security and community forces successfully repelled them without any abductions. Officials recovered more than 15 bodies, exhumed Batijo’s secret burial site and are conducting forensic tests to confirm his identity. The government describes this operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against banditry and the protection of schools across the state.
