Inside the Calabar–Abuja Trans-Sahara Superhighway Construction
The Calabar–Abuja Trans-Sahara Superhighway is a 465-kilometer project linking Cross River, Ebonyi, Benue, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory. It will seamlessly connect the South-South, South-East and North-Central regions. From Calabar, the route enters Afikpo’s Ndibe Beach, then passes through Amasiri, Onueke and Abakaliki before reaching the Ebonyi–Benue boundary. It continues via the Oweto Bridge into Benue State and presses on through Nasarawa into Abuja. Active clearing, cutting and dual-lane expansion are underway along key segments. Once complete, travel time between the South-East and the capital is expected to drop dramatically.
