Osun CAN Summons Pastor for Shrine Invasion, Local Monarch Seals His Church
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Osun State has invited Pastor Ezekiel of Ido-Osun over allegations he led a group that desecrated shrines at the Osun-Osogbo Grove. CAN Chairman Pastor John Adeleke confirmed the invitation and said the pastor has not yet responded. Adeleke condemned the actions and clarified that the association was not involved. He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, highlighting the community’s history of peaceful coexistence among Christians, Muslims, and traditional worshippers. Meanwhile, the Olojudo Alayemore of Ido-Osun, Oba Olayinka Jokotola, ordered the indefinite sealing of Pastor Ezekiel’s church after he ignored a palace summons. Traditional leaders fear the incident could jeopardize religious harmony in the kingdom. The Traditional Religion Worshippers Association has petitioned the Osun State Police Command for a probe into the grove invasion. State authorities and religious representatives are meeting to defuse tensions and restore peace.
